Classic-style courses are the original Outward Bound program. These expeditions are based in the outdoors and teach students technical skills like navigation, camp craft, the basics of backpacking or rock climbing, and much more. As students learn these skills in challenging situations, they also learn the value of teamwork, compassion for others, and the pursuit of excellence.

Designed for students aged 14-18, our Classic expeditions physically, socially and emotionally push students. Often when they think they’ve reached their limits, they find there is more within them. Students discover their passion, dig deep, and master technical and interpersonal skills. Surrounded by the pristine natural world and a crew of adventurous peers, students work as a team to achieve goals and learn skills.

There were some lessons that we learned while out in the field that stay with me to this day. One was focusing on the present. Throughout our expedition, our instructors would never tell us what was happening the next day. While out in the woods, we had to complete everything that was presented to us in the moment. Since time was limited due to sunlight, we needed to work as quickly and as well as possible, otherwise, our task would become more challenging than necessary. This helped me further refine my time management skills in my daily life.
